Welcome to our Church.

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action. With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God with the goal of realizing a just and sustainable world. The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).

We love kids.

Have kids? No worries, we've got you covered. We provide childcare from newborn to 12 years old for all of our services. To read more about our awesome children's ministry, click the button below!

Open and Affirming.

The United Church is officially affiliated with both the UCC (United Church of Christ) and the DOC (Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)).  This affiliation puts us in the unique position of constantly being mindful of the preferences of others and how we use our power. Because we also share our space with the Quakers, we are learning how to build consensus, and how to listen, from them. The United Church is creative space where everyone is accepted, loved, and welcomed.

Core Purpose

Drawn together by the Holy Spirit, we are a distinct and diverse community of believers that come together as one church, joining faith and action. In covenant with the church in all of its settings, we serve God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world as made manifest in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Identity Statement

We are a community of Peace and Justice;  a movement towards wholeness in a fragmented world; no matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

Get Involved

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

- Margaret Mead

There are so many different ways that you can help us to help our shared community.   Check out our "Peace and Justice" page!

Welcome.

Hey there! Thank you for stopping by our website. If you are searching for a good church, we know we are the place for you. Feel free to check out the "New Here" page linked below where you can find the answers to all your questions. If you have never been to our church before, come by this Sunday! We would love to get to know you. We want to see lives changed here by the power of Jesus Christ, and we see that happen every week when someone steps through our doors. We look forward to meeting you! God bless.

Historical Overview.

UCC Firsts

1773 | First published African American poet

A young member of the Old South congregation, Phillis Wheatley, becomes the first published African American author. "Poems on Various Subjects" is a sensation, and Wheatley gains her freedom from slavery soon after. Modern African American poet Alice Walker says of her: "[She] kept alive, in so many of our ancestors, the notion of song."

Our Mission

Our mission is to grow with God's Love and to carry on the ministry of Jesus. We welcome all people to join us on this journey!

DOC Tapestry

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a North American denomination. North America has long been racially and culturally diverse but church life is not always integrated. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) participates in the racial and cultural diversity of North America, including in its membership European Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Pacific Island/Asian Americans. Disciples are working to become a pro-reconciling anti-racist church. We also have brothers and sisters in Canada who joined our movement with a slightly different history.

Our Core Values.

01

WE VALUE THE UCC AND DOC STATEMENTS OF FAITH WHICH LEAD US INTO CONVERSATION, RELFECTION AND QUESTIONS.

While we recognize and respect the Christian Creeds, there is no requirement for belief.

02

WE BELIEVE THAT EACH PERSON IS UNIQUE AND VALUABLE.

All people are created in the image of a Creative God, therefore we place a strong value on creativity.

03

WE BELIEVE THAT WE ARE CALLED TO BE A PROPHETIC CHURCH.

As in the tradition of the prophets and apostles, God calls the church to speak truth to power, liberate the oppressed, care for the poor and comfort the afflicted.

Love in Action.

Peace Labyrinth

Our labyrinth is open 24/7. We hope you will take the time to experience it. It is unique in design, having 9 circuits, in place of the usual 7 or 11.  An enormous boulder stands in the center, its flat surface offers sacred space for reflection. Many people have added their special stories and moments on the bricks which border the stone path.

Although the labyrinth resembles a maze, it is actually the opposite. The path leads you to the center and back, there is no need to worry or struggle with finding your way. As you begin your walk, you are encouraged to breathe deeply. Perhaps you might reflect upon how the path resembles the twists and turns of life; or perhaps you might reflect upon what you are clinging to, and when you the center, spend a few moments letting those things go, follow the path out with your hands open to receive what the Spirit of Holiness brings to you.

We invite you to join us on the first Saturday of May, when we celebrate World Labyrinth Day by Walking As One At 1, creating a wave of peace which covers the world. We hope to see you then.

Betty Cernol

Philippines Water Project

Under the leaderhsip of Betty Cernol, the UCCSA has made a commitment to support Tuburan (a Cebuano word for ‘wellspring’) is a community-based association that mobilizes women, children and their families to realize their hope to have access to clean drinking water for better family health.

This participatory project involves construction of a system to channel water, from a spring on a steep rugged elevation 3.1 miles away, closer to their dwelling units. Built into the project is the development and protection of a watershed area to be managed by the beneficiaries. The site is in Manseje, a rural community in Negros Oriental, the Philippines.

All of the proceeds from this year's church lawn sale  on March 17th will be donated to this project.

OCWM "Five for Five"

Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM) Basic Support and Special Support provide funding for the work of UCC Conference and National ministries in support of the life and work of the local church and its members.

OCWM changes lives by strengthening our ecumenical relationships and global partnerships, by imagining and embodying a better world through prophetic witness and work, and by providing resources and programs to nurture the vitality of our United Church of Christ congregations.

The UCC of St. Augustine has accepted the challenge to accept special offerings throughout the year to support the ministries of OCWM, One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors in Need, Strengthen the Church, and The Christmas Fund.

We'd  love to hear from you.
